Birdwatching is a growing hobby worldwide, and it's not hard to see why! Spending time noticing birds goes hand in hand with slowing down, appreciating your surroundings and developing awareness for the diversity of wildlife right in our neighborhoods! This two-part class is intended to help bird-curious folks notice, remember, and identify local birds. Bird enthusiast and photographer, Emilie Chen, will guide students on bird identification, looking at 20 of Portland's bird species in an evening classroom session, followed by lessons and observation in the field the following day. Friday night’s session will be hosted at the WildCraft studio, with students learning about waterfowl, swallows, woodpeckers, and sparrows and "little brown birds". Bright and early Saturday morning, students will bring their binoculars and put their bird ID skills to the test with a bird walk at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park in Northeast Portland! This workshop is hosted at the WildCraft Studio on Friday evening, and at an off-site location within Portland Metro on Saturday morning.

This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over, who is prepared to hike all day (rain or shine) on uneven terrain, off-trail. This is not a suitable workshop for those with health conditions that may be triggered or exacerbated by hiking, carrying a backpack, or being outside for 3+ hours in variable weather conditions. All participants must meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Off-Site or Nature courses. Please leave dogs at home. Listed class locations are approximate and are subject to change at WildCraft’s sole discretion depending on weather conditions and other seasonal factors. A packing list and exact location will be provided 5 days prior to the workshop date.

All participants must accept the inherent risks of participating in an outdoor adventure and agree to sign a liability waiver. This waiver describes in more detail the risks you assume by participating in an Off-Site or Nature course.  PLEASE carefully review it!
