This class will explore the incredibly diverse ecosystem of the intertidal zone, guiding students through sustainable harvest of mussels, seaweed, and edible barnacles. More info...

Learn about this unique and dynamic environment as Alanna walks students through a lesson on oceanography, tides, currents, and waves to better understand the conditions that allow such animals to thrive in a seemingly harsh environment. Learn to identify numerous species of seaweed based on shape, texture, and size, as well as how to dry and use them in everyday cooking. Learn some easy ways to prepare your harvest with a beachside cooking demo. This workshop will be held near Cannon Beach, Oregon. An exact meeting location and further details will be emailed to participants the Monday prior to the workshop date.


This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over, who is prepared to hike all day (rain or shine) on uneven terrain, off-trail. This is not a suitable workshop for those with health conditions that may be triggered or exacerbated by hiking, carrying a backpack, or being outside for 5+ hours in variable weather conditions. All participants must meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Off-Site or Nature courses. Please leave dogs at home. Listed class locations are approximate and are subject to change at WildCraft’s sole discretion depending on weather conditions and other seasonal factors. A packing list and exact location will be provided 5 days prior to the workshop date.
