Leonardo DaVinci was onto something when he said, “The beauty of the world lies in the details.” Could he have been referring to bands, belts, ribbons, and decorative straps, woven by hand on an inkle loom?! More info...

Inkle looms are simple, portable looms are believed to have been developed in Europe in the late Middle Ages or early Renaissance, with the term “inkle” referring to an old English word meaning “tape” or “narrow band”. Fast forward a few centuries and the basic design of the inkle loom has remained unchanged, offering contemporary crafters an accessible way to get weaving, fast! In this one-day workshop, students will learn how to draft a basic, multi-color pattern using plain weave, how to read existing patterns, the step by step process of warping the loom, and an introduction of how to incorporate more intricate techniques like lettering and “pick-up” patterns into their bands.

Students will get to keep the inkle looms used in class, leaving with all the tools and knowledge needed to keep weaving at home! During the workshop students can expect to complete a 2”x 6” woven strap, perfect to use as a bookmark or keychain.
