Indigo Patterning: Shibori & Resist Methods with Lauren Goding
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Lauren Goding
Go deeper with indigo and Japanese patterning techniques in this 1-day workshop! Traditional techniques such as Arashi (wrapping and binding) and Itajime (clamping and shaped resist) will be introduced in detail. Students will also learn folding, tying, sewing and binding techniques influenced by traditional and non-traditional methods. We’ll dip into an indigo vat to create beautiful custom patterns on various natural fibers. Students will leave with samples and a large patterned piece of fabric. This class will open up the world of surface design to beginners, while challenging those who have already worked with indigo and shibori to move beyond the experimental phase to intentional pattern-making.
Beginners and intermediate students welcome! Open to students 16 & up.
