Indigo Patterning: Shibori & Resist Methods (May) with Megan Mesloh
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Megan Mesloh
Join us for an in-depth day of indigo dyeing and pattern making using traditional Shibori methods and non-traditional experimentation. We will focus on two Japanese Shibori methods; Arashi (wrapping and binding) and Itajime (clamping and shaped resist) in addition to loose play. These resist techniques create beautifully organic and geometric patterns. Students will learn techniques on smaller sample sizes of cotton and gradually work up to creating a full 36"x36" scale textile piece by the end of the day. This class will open up the world of surface design to beginners, while challenging those who have already worked with indigo and shibori to move beyond the experimental phase to intentional pattern-making.
No previous experience necessary. Open to all adults 16 & up.
