Improvisational Collage & Stitch
Tuition: $165 | Materials: $25
We're pleased to host Los Angeles based textile artist, Debra Weiss for a day of exploring collage through the lens of textiles. More info...
Throughout my practice I gently manipulate fabric through stitching, knotting, appliqué and layering. Time slows and I work intuitively. I find myself making connections between the years of life and the layers of fabric. As we change and grow we remain ourselves only different, so does the fabric with each puncture of my needle.

We're pleased to host Los Angeles based textile artist, Debra Weiss for a day of exploring collage through the lens of textiles. Layering, stitching, weaving and knotting: making meaning through process, composition and materiality. Debra will encourage an improvisational mindset in this workshop, opening students to the idea of letting go of preconceived notions and allowing the fabric to dictate direction and message. For first-time stitchers, Debra will provide guidance on a variety of stitching techniques including running stitch, back stitch, blanket stitch and chain stitch. Debra will provide students with materials including linen, assorted fabric scraps, sashiko thread, quilting thread and needles. Students are encouraged to bring fabric or any textiles that might add texture, color or meaning to their projects.
