Take a deep dive into woodcarving and knife skills in this 2-day exploration of hand carved animals led by woodworker and educator, Rose Holdorf. More info...

Students will learn a foundation of carving grips, (distinct ways of holding a knife) while carving simple forms in basswood, then build off those techniques over the weekend, tackling more complicated figures. Rose will share traditions of animal carving from around the world, use traditional milk paint to add color to the carvings, and take time to educate students on how to maintain and sharpen their tools. By the end of the weekend, students can expect to go home with one or two finished animals, or several roughed out.

This class is open to beginning and experienced woodworkers alike but does require the ability to withstand strenuous hand work. Rose will offer breaks and share her favorite hand stretches. This class, especially because of its duration, may not suit someone with chronic hand pain or arthritis.
