You’ve seen her around town, and can’t help but wonder how is she so bright, so matte, and so perfectly opaque?! Everyone knows her cousin, watercolor. But who is this magical GOUACHE?! More info...

Want to get to know her better? Take a deep dive into painting with gouache in this 4-week workshop led by professional illustrator and artist, Mandy Arroyo.

This centuries-old paint got its name in France - gaining a reputation as an ideal medium for poster design, and was commonly used to sketch out designs headed for print, such as repeat textile patterns. Fast forward a few hundred years, and gouache is enjoying a renaissance in both fine art and illustration - prized as a curious medium capable of creating flat fields of color, soft gradients and pops of color!

Over the course of this four-week class, Mandy will guide students through techniques for painting with acryla gouache, developing unique color palettes, simplifying reference photos, adding texture, and playing with pattern. Students will practice painting a range of subjects and come away from class with a portfolio of work ready to share online and continue exploring further in their sketchbook. All levels are welcome in this course - come ready to play and bring your own unique personality to your artwork.

Students will be sent a materials list for paints and paint brushes upon registering. A sketchbook and other materials will be supplied.
