Sustainable Floral Design with Chelsea Willis
Teacher: Chelsea Willis
In this class, farmer and florist, Chelsea Willis will guide students on floral design with a focus on sustainability. How can florists transition away from non-biodegradable materials such as floral foam? What about working not just with local and organically grown flowers, but those which also support pollinators? How can designers become more mindful of the waste produced during installations? Whether you're a florist or a hobbiest with a passion for sustainability, this class will offer hands-on experience in how to consider sustainability at every step of the process. Students will also learn harvesting tips and tricks while picking the freshest blooms from the farm, followed by a course on design mechanics that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. The group will build a large installation piece together and each individual will leave with a piece of the design.
No previous experience necessary. This workshop will be held on Sweet Delilah Farm on Sauvie Island, Oregon. Students will receive directions to the farm 5 days prior to the class date. Class will be running, rain or shine. Open to students 16 & up. Please leave dogs at home.
