Animal Friendly, Felted Sheepskins at The Croft Farm!
Tuition: $170 | Materials: $41
In this workshop, students will visit a working farm, and learn how to create an animal-friendly, felted sheepskin rug. More info...

As if this workshop couldn't get better! We're taking Kristina Foley's felted sheepskin workshop out to a family-owned blueberry farm on Sauvie Island! Kristina's no-harm approach to felting, offers an animal-friendly alternative to traditional tanning, a method which reflect's the Croft Farm's philosophy toward animals, including their flock of sheep and alpaca.
In this workshop, students will become familiar with the qualities of different types of wool and what makes each appropriate for wet felting, as well as an introduction to other useful materials and felting tools. Each student will receive a 1lb of locally-sourced, raw wool, sufficient to make a 12” x 12” felted sheepskin. Kristina will guide students through the process of cleaning and preparing the raw wool, laying it out to create the desired shape and ‘sheepskin’ effect, while teaching the basic felting and finishing techniques to create a clean felted sheepskin that will last many years.
This workshop also offers an opportunity to learn more about small farms producing fiber in Oregon, including The Croft Farm. Students will have the chance to tour the farm, ask questions about the animals and view the collection of beautiful yarn produced from their fleece.
Beginning students will get a thorough education on felting, while experienced felters and textile artists will be treated to a unique, new technique.
