Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Cydni Carter Lopez
The Pacific Northwest is a region treasured for its stunning landscape, diverse ecosystems, and rich cultural heritage. This 1-day workshop introduces beginning and experienced natural dyers to the native and invasive dye plants of the Portland region. Students will learn how to process flowers, leaves, berries, bark, and roots, with the goal of creating a delicate fall palette on natural textiles. Plant identification and responsible harvest will be emphasized. Students will learn how to use non-toxic mordants on animal and plant fibers (wool, silk, cotton). By the end of this workshop, students will feel confident with the process of natural dying, leaving with extensive notes, samples, 2 naturally dyed textiles & a WildCraft Natural Dye Craftbook.
