Traditional Egg Tempera Paint Making & Technique

Teacher: Rachel Warkentin | Date: Sat, 04.05 , 10am-4pm | Location: Offsite
Tuition: $165 | Materials: $20

Egg tempera is one of the oldest and most archival painting mediums, delivering long lasting and intensely vibrant colors. It’s also non- toxic, and an excellent tool for a sustainable art practice. Many egg tempera paintings from the 1300's look every bit as bright today as they did when they were first painted! More info...

In this in-depth workshop, led by artist Rachel Warkentin, students will learn to prepare two different recipes for egg tempera, learning to make their own paint from entirely natural materials, including historic mineral and earth pigments. Students will also explore different traditional and contemporary application techniques. This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in exploring a traditional painting medium, beginners and practicing artists alike. Students will leave with two distinct egg tempera recipes, a materials resource list, and a finished egg tempera painting.

This workshop is held at Rachel's NE Portland studio. The studio is located on the 2nd floor and is, unfortunately, not ADA accessible.
