Escape to the heart of Oregon's coastal mountains to work with clay in East Creek's newest studio space, the Forest Studio. Unguided and uninterrupted studio time is the focus of this residency retreat, though supplementary help and instruction will be available from East Creek's experienced staff of art educators. More info...

Consisting of a covered deck set amongst the giant mossy douglas firs and vine maples within earshot of a lush and cold mountain creek, the 10’x10’ studio space contains a simple human powered Lockerbie kick wheel, a table and shelf. The studio residency also includes a dedicated camping spot. Your Forest Studio experience provides 12 lbs of clay and associated bisque firing. More clay, return shipping, and other firing services are available for an extra charge, as are tiny cabin or bunkhouse stays, subject to availability. Upon your arrival, you'll be given an orientation of the grounds and East Creek's shared resources, including the outdoor kitchen, composting toilet, outdoor shower, and fire pit, which are all available for Forest Studio guests.

As there is no formal instruction, The Forest Studio Residency is designed for experienced ceramicists who are ready to work independently on self-guided projects.

About East Creek: East Creek is a community art studio and ceramics retreat center, situated on 20 acres of lush forest. A historic 40-foot wood fired Anagama kiln is a rare feature of this compound. Built in 1983, the kiln is the second of its kind in the US. East Creek is pleased to host guests overnight with space to camp, tiny cabins and a bunkhouse. Joe has been part of the East Creek community for eighteen years, and has owned the property for seven. He has a MFA in Applied Craft + Design from Pacific Northwest College of Art and Oregon College of Art and Craft. Please read East Creek’s Covid-19 and vaccine policy prior to enrollment.
