These whimsical creations, historically given at celebrations and holidays, hide treasures within layers of colorful paper that recipients unwind to discover hidden gifts along the way.
Under the guidance of paper artist Inga Ilze Peterson, students will learn various surface decoration options—from simple color blocking to more elaborate textural treatments—that give each surprise ball personality and visual appeal. Understanding how different paper weights and textures work together creates opportunities for both subtle and dramatic effects.
The workshop provides an assortment of candies for wrapping, though students are encouraged to bring personal trinkets, small toys, or special treats that make their surprise balls uniquely meaningful. This customization transforms each creation into a personalized gift perfect for parties, holidays, or special occasions.
Students will complete one or two surprise balls ready for gifting, along with the skills to continue creating these delightful party favors at home.
This workshop welcomes crafters of all experience levels.
No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
