Coastal Color: Natural Dyes of the Oregon Coast with Cydni Carter Lopez
Teacher: Cydni Carter Lopez
Salal, fireweed, twinberry & tansy ragwort: these are just a few of the diverse coastal plants that produce brilliant natural dyes. This one-day workshop leads students on a tour of natural colors found in the plants of the Oregon coast with hands-on lessons in plant harvesting, processing, fiber preparation, and of course, dyeing! We will use non-toxic mordants, plant and animal fibers (cotton, wool, and silk) to create a journal of swatches and samples, recording the summer colors of Oregon Coast. Students will also take home a dyed silk scarf and cotton bandana. This workshop is held outdoors, rain or shine on a private property in Nehalem, OR. An exact meeting location will be emailed with more details to students one week prior to the class.
This workshop is open to all adults 16 yrs & over, who are prepared to be outside for 5+ hours in variable weather conditions and possible uneven terrain. Please leave dogs at home. No previous experience necessary. A packing list is included in the confirmation email, and info about our location will be provided 5 days prior to the workshop date.
