This class will introduce students to clamming as well as seaweed farming on the Oregon Coast. Wade through the mudflats while learning to identify and dig for clams. This workshop will also be heading to Oregon Seaweed, a seaweed farm in Garibaldi, OR growing Pacific dulse, a carbon-negative sea vegetable high in protein.  Alanna will share principles of sustainable fisheries as well as the positive environmental benefits of seaweed farming world-wide and the effort many are making in the world of “climate cuisine,” which includes shellfish and seaweeds. Students will also hear how to clean and prepare the foods found during the workshop. This workshop will be held in Garibaldi, OR. An exact meeting location and further details will be emailed to participants on the Monday prior to the workshop date.

This workshop is open to all adults 16 yrs & over, who are prepared to hike all day (rain or shine) on uneven terrain, through variable landscapes, including mudflats. The group will be digging clams in mudflats, and should expect a great amount of resistance while walking, as well as muddy, wet clothing and footwear. This is not a suitable workshop for those with health conditions or injuries that may be triggered by walking through thick mud, carrying a backpack, or being outside for 5+ hours in variable weather conditions. Please leave dogs at home. Listed class locations are approximate and are subject to change depending on weather conditions and other seasonal factors. A packing list and exact location will be provided 5 days prior to the workshop date.
