Location: Portland Studio

In this class students will not only take home their own set of non-disposable, handmade utensils in a sturdy canvas utensil holder, but they will spend a weekend learning traditional greenwood carving techniques, crafting their own combination of chopsticks, spoons, spreading knife, and fork. Starting with a log and splitting the wood into usable blanks with axes and mauls, students will continue processing the wood into smaller, more functional pieces by carving with a sloyd knife and other simple tools. We’ll discuss design, utility, and detail throughout the course, and you will go home with a unique set of reusable woodenware utensils as well as an array of woodcarving skills to continue the practice on your own.

No previous experience necessary. Open to all adults 16 & up.
