Hand-Carved Bone Tools & Utensils with Rory Sparks
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Rory Sparks
Bone is a resilient material that can be carved and shaped to make functional yet beautiful tools for just about every making process. Crochet hooks, knitting needles, folders, spatulas, spoons, buttons, and burnishers are all possibilities in this class. We will learn how to source, prepare, and select bones, and learn about the different qualities bone can have for specific tool functions. Conversations about responsible and respectful harvesting of bones and nose-to-tail movements will fuel our making and provide a starting point for designing and conceiving of reverent tools that honor the life of an animal.
