Hand Woven Beaded Jewelry (April 4) with Sofija Olson
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Sofija Olson
Adornment is a personal expression – one that goes beyond aesthetics to communicate cultural, historical, and emotional connections. The art of beadwork has a rich history across the globe as a source of creative expression and meaningful messaging. Jeweler and artist Sofija Olson of Studio Oma brings us a day of instruction around the tradition and technique of woven beadwork. Students will learn this slow and intricate process by making a pair of custom designed earrings. Sofija will guide students through material reviews, proper use of tools, and designing and stringing beads in a tapestry-like process. Students will be encouraged to play with creative color combinations while learning to make beautiful beaded patterns. Everyone will leave class with their own pair of earrings, as well as instructions to take home and continue creating.
No previous experience necessary. Open to all adults, 16 & up.
