Animal Friendly, Felted Sheepskins (Jan) with Kristina Foley

Date: Sunday January 30, 2022
Time: 10am-4pm
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Kristina Foley
Tuition: $160
Materials: $35

Felting is one of the earliest techniques used by humans to create shelter and clothing.

We’re thrilled to host Kristina Foley as she shares her unique approach to felting, and an animal-friendly alternative to traditional tanning.

In this workshop, students will become familiar with the qualities of different types of wool and what makes each appropriate for wet felting, as well as an introduction to other useful materials and felting  tools. Each student will receive a 1lb of locally-sourced, raw wool, sufficient to make a 12” x 12” felted sheepskin. Kristina will guide students through the process of cleaning and preparing the raw wool, laying it out to create the desired shape and ‘sheepskin’ effect, while teaching the basic felting and finishing techniques to create a clean felted sheepskin that will last many years.

This workshop also offers an opportunity to learn more about small farms producing fiber in Oregon and beyond. Beginning students will get a thorough education on felting, while experienced felters and textile artists will be treated to a unique, new technique.

No previous experience necessary. Open to all adults 16 & up.
