Tuition: $125 | Materials: $15
Discover the traditional art of Pysanky and create decorative eggs using centuries-old Eastern European techniques. More info...
This hands-on workshop teaches the beautiful craft of egg batik, transforming simple eggs into intricate works of art using hot beeswax and vibrant dyes.
Using a heated wax pen above a candle flame, students will draw precise lines and patterns directly onto colored or white eggs. Through a carefully sequenced process of wax application and dye baths, beautiful multi-layered designs are revealed as the wax is removed, creating colorful motifs that stand out against white or red backgrounds.
Instructor Daniela Mahoney brings authentic expertise to this time-honored craft. Born in Prague and trained in the traditional arts of Central and Eastern Europe, she carries decades of experience in preserving and teaching cultural practices. As an Oregon Folklife Network award recipient and master artist, Daniela guides students through these precious techniques while sharing the rich cultural heritage behind each design.
Students will leave with their own collection of beautiful Pysanky eggs and the knowledge to continue this ancient practice at home.
