Leaded Stained Glass Panels
Tuition: $205 | Materials: $55
We’re diving deep into technique this season, offering all you stained-glass fanatics a chance to stretch your skills and broaden your knowledge. More info...
If you’ve taken one of Kristin’s intro workshops, you likely learned how to join glass shapes using the copper foil method. In this workshop, Kristin will introduce you to the traditional leaded method, a centuries-old technique that predates copper foil by hundreds of years. Leaded stained glass has a rich history, dating back to the Middle Ages, where it was used to create the iconic windows seen in Gothic cathedrals and churches. This process has remained largely unchanged for over 500 years, making it a timeless craft still in use today.
This workshop will cover assembly and construction techniques for both small and mid-sized projects with a focus on learning specific techniques and skills unique to the traditional leaded process. Kristin will offer an in-depth demonstration on the glazing process, and guide students through the creation of not just one, but TWO unique geometric pieces. As an introduction to the leaded process, students will first construct one smaller 5”x5” panel, which will also be used to practice glazing. After becoming familiarized with leaded construction techniques, students will then take on assembling a larger 7”x9” panel, and be sent home with supplies to complete the glazing process independently, if desired.
This workshop is open to all experience levels. As the class is focused on technique, rather than design, students will work from a variety of templates provided by Kristin. Join us for this full-day intensive on traditional leaded stained glass!
