Spring Mushroom Forage
With the arrival of spring, the Pacific Northwest forest floors begin to teem with life, offering foragers the chance to uncover wild edible mushrooms like morels and porcini. More info...
This hands-on workshop is perfect for curious beginners eager to learn the fundamentals of mushroom foraging while gaining a deeper understanding of forest ecology.
Guided by outdoorswoman and wild foods enthusiast Annie Scriven, students will learn mushroom identification techniques, sustainable harvesting methods, and ethical foraging practices. Annie will cover how to interpret the environment for signs of edible mushrooms and provide practical tips for planning your own foraging trips. Additionally, you’ll learn how to safely prepare and preserve your wild harvest.
If you’ve harvested pounds of chanterelles in the fall, spring foraging invites you to reset your expectations and embrace the thrill of the hunt. In the Pacific Northwest, successful spring foraging looks like each student finding one or two morels, and possibly a porcini. While baskets rarely fill this time of year, the adventure offers something richer: a new appreciation for the complexity of the forest ecosystem, and the essential knowledge to head out on your next forage!
Open to beginners - no experience necessary.
All spring forages will be within a 1.5hr drive of Hood River, OR. The exact meeting location will not be determined until 5 days prior to your forage. Students will be notified of the meeting location by the Monday prior to the workshop date.
